CPTG Testing Process
The purity of an essential oil is it’s most important characteristic. An essential oil that isn’t pure means you run the risk of putting germs, heavy metals, or contaminates onto or into your body, which can provoke irritation, adverse effects, or even sickness.
Without an accepted standard for essential oil quality, dōTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. dōTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life.
This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch.
Global Sourcing for Maximum Potency
Another crucial element in providing a quality essential oil is guaranteeing that there is maximum potency.
For an essential oil to obtain a strong potency, the plant it originates from must be grown in the right environment. When plants are grown in optimal soil, temperature, and climate, they produce a higher quality of potency in the essential oil.
dōTERRA networks with experienced farmers around the world that intimately know how to grow plants in their native environment. This process is called sourcing. The sourcing process ensures that plants are taken care of properly and harvested at the proper stage by growers who have generations of harvesting knowledge. Once the plants reach their prime, they are then gathered and carefully distilled by artisans, making oils that are potent, consistent, and pure.

Global Partnerships Through Co-Impact Sourcing
With over 100 essential oils in its product line, dōTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries —more than half of which could be considered developing countries. To ensure that small-scale farmers and harvesters in developing areas are treated ethically, dōTERRA has introduced an initiative called Co-Impact Sourcing.
Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in developing areas. dōTERRA is working to improve lives and communities throughout the world. Many of the essential oils offered by dōTERRA are sourced in developing countries, where the growers and distillers are often at the mercy of third parties.
Co-Impact Sourcing helps create coalitions between growers and distillers that eliminate the need for those third parties. Thus, local communities are receiving fair and timely payments that not only support their crops and harvest but also have a direct, immediate impact on the community as well.
dōTERRA works with these coalitions to provide the resources, tools, and training necessary to ensure a long-lasting partnership.
